Answer: first off, this must be long term capital gain or (loss), meaning more then a year. With that the major difference is in the tax percentage paid. Where as, if the investment is held for less then one year, then the tax on the investment is subject to the income bracket that you are in. If it qualifies as a long term capital gain, the maximum tax on it is 15%
